Instructions for searching the Illinois State Archives
Civil War Database
by Regiment, Company, and Infantry/Cavalry.
contributed by David Arnsmeyer
Fred Delap, Kansas, IL, donated the Illinois
Civil War Database for all Illinois Civil War Soldiers to the Illinois
State Archives. A big thank you goes to Fred for all of his work in compiling
the rosters on his computer. Fred used the Adjutant General's Report as
the source for entering the data.
INSTRUCTIONS
The Regiment number (or other designation) is preceeded by two spaces and proceeded by one space, this is followed by "INF" or "CAV", etc.
To extract a particular company and regiment try this model for the search string:
{space}company{space}{space}regiment{space}
example: " A 7 " gives company A of regiment 7 (quotes not included)
You can further refine the search by adding "INF" for just the infantry
example: " A 7 INF" (quotes not included)
The one space before the company, two spaces after the company, and one space after the regiment seem to be consistent. If it doesn't work, try one space between company and regiment.
