ANDREWS, FRYMAN, FRYMANE, WATEZ, WATTS posted by Dolores Andrews on Monday, February 7, 2000

I have 2 deeds for property with a Narcis? Navcis? Cynthia Jane WATEZ 1859 and Navcis? Narcis? Cynthia Jane FRYMAN 1863. This woman must be connected to me or these deeds would not have stayed in the family for this long. I'm hoping she married an Andrews around 1863-4. Does anyone reconize the first name or WATEZ to be anything else? I'm stumped.

The following query was posted July 12, 1997 by Edna MCPHERSON, whose email address is no longer valid. I'm curious about the reference to America JANE. Is JANE a last name or a middle name? Did she marry a DAY and perhaps die in Gillespie, Macoupin Co, IL? I am researching the Henry EDWARDS descendants. This includes Henry, Jr. and John who resided in Macoupin County Illinois, David W. who resided in Greene County Illinois and James Jordan, Elcey, and America Jane who resided in Sangamon County Illinois. The family came from Adair County Kentucky about 1825 to the vacinity of Jacksonville, Illinois. Will share info.

CLEVELAND, SMITH posted by Sheryl Hodges on Thursday, February 24, 2000

I just purchased a copy of my great-grandmother and grandfather's marriage license today. My great-grandmother, Sarah Ann SMITH was born in Carlinville, IL (Macoupin County), but later moved and was married in Alton. I would like to know if anyone can tell me her birthdate as we can't find any records. The year was about 1885-1887. Her mother's maiden name was left blank and I would like to know what it was and her father's name looks as though it says either Hiram or maybe Herman SMITH. (Looks more like Hiram.) She married Harry CLEVELAND in Alton, IL on April 30, 1904. Can anyone help me? Thanks

JAMES, JAYNE, JAYNES, RECKARD posted by Doug Reckard on Saturday, March 4, 2000

I'm looking for help with the Thomas JAYNE or JAMES family, which I've found listed in various Macoupin Co. IL census lists. In particular I'm researching the name Dosha or Docia, my ggrandmother. The Thomas JAYNES family is not listed in the 1830 census The Thomas JAYNES family is listed in the 1840 census as having one male age 20-30 and (I'm not making this up!) 3 males over age 100! Okay, maybe either the census taker or I don't understand the code used that year. There are also 2 females age 0-5, and one age 20-30. In the 1850 census, the JAYNES family is listed as follows: Father is Thomas, 37 and mother is Jane, 34. Both are born in VA. Children are Mourning, 13; Thomas I, 9; Docia, 8; John, 5; Amaziah, 3; Virginia C, 5/12. All are born in IL. In 1860 the family is listed as JAMES. I make this leap based upon the names & ages of the children. Thomas, the father, is not listed. Jane is 44 and would seem to be the head of the household. Children are Thomas J, 20; Dacia, 18 and a Docia, 17, John, 16; Amaziah, 13; Virginia, 10; America, 8. In this census the family number is 1174, and Dasha (18) is listed with that family. Dosha (17) is listed with family 1244, which happens to be the Calvin RECKARD family. Amos Samuel RECKARD, age 17 in 1860, will take Docia (or Dosha?) JAMES as his second wife after his service in the Civil War. Dosha James RECKARD died in Gandy, Logan Co, NE on 3/10/1927. Family legend has it that she was at least part Indian. Of particular interest is where this family came from in VA. What happened to father Thomas? Did they change their surname, or was it an enumerator error? Why was Dosha living with the RECKARDs? Any details on this family would be appreciated! Doug RECKARD, NH

LOOMIS, MCALISTER, MCCALLISTER, MCCOLLISTER, TILLEY posted by Shirley Meinert on Sunday, March 5, 2000

I have found Calvin MCCOLLISTER and his family in the 1850 Macoupin County census as well as his married daughter Elizabeth and husband Martin TILLEY. What township were they living in? Is there a way to figure this out. The township was not listed at the top of the page by the enumerator. In the posted article on the history of the LOOMIS house, a MCALISTER is listed as helping with the barn raising. Could this be my Calvin? Some of the other helpers appear to be neighbors according to the census. By 1860 Calvin's wife Mary and some of their children as well as the TILLEYs were in Franklin County, Missouri. What happened to Calvin? Most of Calvin's children were born in MO. Why did they move to Illinois in the 1850's and then return to MO? Any MCCALLISTER spelling if acceptable.

I am investigating the Johann Heinrich BUESCHER [1828-1892] from Westerkappeln [Seeste], Westphalia who settled in the Staunton, IL area. He appeared to have been known as Heinrich. His wife was Katherine Elizabeth HEIDEMANN [1828-1906] [EYEDEMANN in Germany]. She went by the name Elizabeth. I have information on sons Henry and Frederich [my grandfather], but would like to know if anyone knows about daughters Wilhemina BUESCHER [dob 1858] who appears to have married in the Staunton area and Bernadina [Dina] BUESCHER [1869-1899] who apparently never married, died in St. Louis, and was buried with her parents in Staunton City Cemetery. I am also interested in Julie STEIGEMEIER and Wilhemina STILLE who were baptism sponsors for Henry's daughter in 1895. Could either of them be related to Henry BUESCHER? This baptism occured at St. Paul's German Evangelical [now UCC] church in Staunton.

I am looking for information on Sarah C. "Sally" McAfee, the first wife of Frederick Augustus Olds. Sarah was the daughter of Robert B. McAfee and Mary Cardwell of Mercer Co., KY. Frederick and Sarah were married in Mercer Co., KY on Sept 4, 1828. They moved to Macoupin Co. sometime after 1830. I have a record of a land purchase that Frederick Olds made in Macoupin Co. in May 1834, but do not know exactly when the family made the move. Frederick does not appear in the 1830 census for Macoupin Co., but he is named in a probate record in 1835 indenturing two servants to him, and is listed in the 1840 census. Frederick and Sarah had five children (Robert Augustus, Elizabeth Jackson, Mary McAfee, Sarah Mercy and Frederick Taft). Sarah McAfee Olds died in 1838. I would like to know the exact date, and where she is buried. Frederick remarried Jan. 2, 1839 in Macoupin Co. to Elizabeth Lincoln, and the family moved to Olmsted Co., MN before 1860. They moved to Macoupin County in the 1830's and settled in Western Mound Township just west of Carlinville. They appear in the 1840, 1850 and (she)in the 1860 Census of Macoupin County. I am descended from their youngest son Daniel Marion Edwards who appears as the head of household, in the 1860 Census, on his parents farm. Have much information about her ancestral line and Daniel Marion Edward's descendant line. Daniel married Nancy Viney Drennan of Sangamon County, IL. Hope to learn more about Edwards ancestry. Did they come from Wales?

CLEVENGER, DAVIS, EARKS, HILL, LAIR, MOOREHEAD, SMITH, TAVIS posted by Dorothy Ballenger on Wednesday, June 28, 2000

I am looking for the John Tavis family. I know John Tavis and Maria Davis Tavis lived in the Macoupin County in Carlinville in the 1850's. John and Maria lived in Kentucky when they had their son John. Elizabeth married George Lair. He died in the Civil War at East Port Mississippi. Later she married Bayless Earls in Crawford County, Missouri. He was the son of William Lair and Martha Clevenger. Mary Elizabeth Tavis Elizabeth Tavis was born about 1833 in Macpoupin County, Illinois. She married George Lair. on August 7,1851 in Macoupin County, Illinois.. They were married by Isham Gibson. It is beleive that George and Elizabeth lived outside of Palmyra, Illinois before George fought in the Civil War, because on July 26,1864 Elizabeth had a Palmyra mailing address. Elizabeth and George lived out side of Palmyra when they had their children. William Henry Lair 12.17.1852 Nancy Jane Lair 07.01.1854 Mary Elizabeth Lair 06.05.1856 Issac Lair 05.01.1858 Amanda Carolyn Lair 12.16.186? Charles Franklin Lair 02.07.1866 or 1867 George Lair died at East Port, Mississippi on 12.05.1863 at 122 Regimental Hospital. George's cause of death was an unknown diease. In July 1871 Elizabeth married Mr. Bayless Earls in Leasburg, Missouri. He died in 1871 or 1891, the information I have is hard to read. In 1901 Elizabeth Earls post office address was Leasburg, Missouri. In 05.20.1918 she was living with or beside her son Charles F. Lair in Piemont, Missouri. On April 1, 1919 her mailing address was Madison, Illinois. When her pension check was returned to the Finance Division the date stamped on it were 11.04.1919, 02.04.1920 and March 1.1920. Her body was returned to Leasburg, Missour by train for the burial. This information, I received from the marriage (court house), census, My grandpa, pension recorders, my mother and letters wrote from Elizabeth to her grandson which is my grandpa, also a first cousin to my grandpa said she smoked a corn pipe. All the stories, I have heard from my family agrees with the recorders. So, I believe that all is true. My grandpa told me that Elizabeth first name was Mary. I have not been able to find any recorder of this fact. Also I have found in my grandpa belonging, a metal thing that had Bales Earls engraved on it that may have been something off at one time that belonged on a trunk. For some reason after she moved from Macoupin County, she had no desire to live there after that. Also in the 1870 or 1880 census you will find her living with her father-in-law and brother-in-law family. Why did she not move back with her Tavis family. Did they move from Illinois. Isaac married Alice Hill, One daughter married a Smith. One daughter married a Earls. William Henry married Amanda Moorehead. 1840 Census Macoupin County Illinois Contributed DAVIS, Jane 0021000000000 2100010000000 057 TAVIS, John 1020001000000 0300001000000 057 page 243A, Macoupin County IL, 9 Oct 1850 DAVIS (1-1) Ganet ? 35 M Ky Farmer 1000 Catharine 32 F Ten Sarah E. 10 F Ill Nancy E. 8 F Ill Miram ?
