IL (our mailing address). The Macoupin County Historical
Society is a separate society and is located in Carlinville, IL.
We do not have a society office or building. Our genealogical materials
are housed in the George and Santina Sawyer Genealogy Room, Staunton Public
Library, 306 West Main, Staunton, IL 62088. The hours are: Mon-Thurs: 10
am - 7 pm; Fri & Sat: 10 am - 5 pm. The phone there is 618-635-3852.
Our collection includes Staunton newspapers on microfilm, census records,
county histories, cemetery records, family histories, church records, etc.
Also see our printout membership form, our mailing

Cindy Leonard, Corresponding Secretary, goes to the
post office in Staunton to retrieve mail for the Macoupin County Genealogical
Society. She tells us, "USUALLY, 5 (8 1/2 x 11) pages can be mailed
for one first class stamp. Anything over that requires more postage. You
might ask: "WHY is she telling me this?" Well, once again, I
went to the post office, penniless, and you guessed it, another postage
due notice was in the box. Most of them cost me an extra 23 cents. So,
please remind everyone to have their letters weighed at their post office
if they send more than 5 pages!! While it isn't a lot of money, it does
add up. And since I walk from work to the post office, I wind up walking
back to the office to get the 23 cents and then back to the post office.
While I can probably use the exercise, I really don't like to walk that
much! I know, you say: "Let her carry money with her!" I guess
I will start!"
Join the Macoupin County Genealogical Society and receive
great benefits. You receive the newsletter, The Macoupin County Searcher,
which is published in January, April, July, October, January and April.
You receive limited queries which are free to members and non-members are
charged $2.00 per query. And, get the surnames you are researching listed
in the April edition of The Macoupin County Searcher.
FOR EXAMPLE - If someone joins the Society in the middle of the year, that
person gets all the past issues of the newsletter for that membership year.
Our last issue for the 2003-2004 year is April. When you send in your application
you should indicate if you want it for the '2003 -2004 year or the 2004-2005
membership year. If you want 2003-2004 you would get the April issue and
the past 3 issues. That way you will receive all newsletters that all other
members received. If you want the membership to start with the 2004-2005
year, your first issue would be the July 2004 issue. The rates would be
$12.00 for each membership year. The newsletter usually comes out at the
end of the month. April issue will be mailed late April or early May.
Most of the information in the newsletters is information that is historical
and not things that will change. We do devote a page or so to up coming
genealogy fairs, seminars, reunions or current happenings, but most are
historical.
See top of page for printout membership form.
**Photocopy charges for copies made by the society.
If you need a page xeroxed from a Macoupin County Genealogical Publication
such as our newsletter, The Macoupin County Searcher, the charges are $1.00
per page and a LSASE. The proceeds go to the Macoupin County Genealogical
Society.
For more information or for ordering, write to and include LSASE:
